Student leader Khaair heads panel interested in meeting with chancellors

A flyer announcing, "students want less criticism and more meaningful dialogue, Khaair Morrison, student advocate with fellow classmates has organized a  youth conference at the Francis Lewis High School to get to know Cathie Black since "she has said that public opposition is based on the fact that we don't know her."
The flyer cited, "in January, she'll be Chancellor and we may have wasted all this time up till then protesting something we don't even have the authority to change." Echoing the words of Cathie Black..."it's time to move forward."
But don't expect to contact him directly there is a telephone number on the flyer to get in touch with "his Pr/manager, who is handling everything," including setting up all his meetings though he has an e-mail address to contact him.
The Panel wants to address issues such as overcrowding, school closings, budget cuts, and disparities in curriculum and college prep.  Mr. Morrison is a motivational speaker, addressing youth conferences, and speaking at colleges in the city such as Hunter and Columbia University.  He made head line news in the spring when the metro authorities had planned to eliminate the free Student Metro Cards.

  1. RE: from post -- "get to know Cathie Black since 'she has said that public opposition is based on the fact that we don't know her.'"

No, I think it's based on the fact that "PUBLIC TRUST" has been deleted from her job title by Bloomberg, so why risk meeting her anywhere? Who knows what trouble that might get one into.

  2. LOL...it is very funny that this kid already has a "PR " manager. Clearly he is ready to drop out of school and run for public office -- or be appointed as a superintendent somewhere! (You don't need any qualifications, as you can see from Cathie Black's appointment.)

All you need in this country is a good story for a political party: "I had a PR manager when I was only 16, and then dropped out in order to 'make a difference' -- so I joined x/y/z political party; and then: my career and life REALLY BEGAN TO SOAR! I was APPOINTED to a quarter million dollar gig as superintendent; thanks much to my PR manager. (I found out school really doesn't count
    for anything in this country.)"

    Note to this kid:
Reflect on the difference between your brainwashed thinking and the thinking of the great Abe Lincoln (a former president of this country who was not also a crook like some formr presidents of this country):

"something we don't even have the authority to change." Kid quote

"Government of the People, by the People and for the People shall not perish from this earth."
    Abe Lincoln quote

  3. BTW, here is how the 40th largest school district in the country (Lee County, Ft Myers, FL) is now conducting a search for a new head of their school district -- with a search committee comprised of "30" members of the community:

    http://www.news-press.com/article/201012081027/NEWS0104/101208013?odyssey=mod_related_topix

"A key component in the first stage of the search is community input. The board will be scheduling five public forums -- one in each member's district –– and naming 30 individuals to a volunteer search committee comprised of teachers and staff, parents, students, community leaders and taxpayers."

  4. wow summer you're so cool i wish i could be like you... Oh wait im being brainwashed by society and can't think freely for myself oh well. Interesting how you rant against a highschool student who has been more politically involved in events involving students than you most likely have in your life time. Please continue your rant though it's quite funny and entertaining to all the readers.

  5. lets be realistic. government and politicians dont give a hoot about their people. "motivational speaking" does no good. rallying up and protesting only pisses politicians off even more. dont forget that the government is in charge. not the people. the people do not have taxing rights, the right to arrest and convict, or a military. the government does. so dont tell me that speaking and rallying will do any good. and if thats not enough, some student is doing this "motivational speaking". now the government is laughing and goin "theyre sending a kid? thats the best they got?" will DEFINITELY not listen. come on guys. be realistic. stop living in a fantasy world where the government actually acts in the best interest of the people. furthermore, education will never improve. not in this country. if you have a president with a C- average for 8 years, then there is no hope in educating you. the rest of the world is laughing at us. and they will continue to do so until there is violence and extreme rioting going on for reform and revolution. that is the only way.

  6. I happen to know Khaair and will vouch for his sincerity and his desire to help the crazy school situation mayoral control has created. His method might be different, but his goals are the same. I have been invited to be part of this discussion, if it does come to pass, and rest assured, I will be a voice of the teacher and the voice of a child advocate.

  7. listen, there is no method. you cannot change the will of a king. bloomberg, cuomo, obama, etc. etc. these people are kings. you cannot change their minds. give them one good reason why they should change their minds and make themselves look indecisive. to please the public? yeah sure, and I'm santa claus. also, as far as I know, khaair was not elected or appointed to be a youth advocate/student leader or to represent the youth. yet he considers himself a political prodigy. that is not sincerity. I, along with many others, do not appreciate it. give it up guys. you don't have the support of the people you claim to represent. and you have no power to change the mentalities of the royals of US government. that is reality. face facts and grow up already

  8. When Khaair Morrison showed me his business card and I saw he had a PR, I found it extremely comical. When he told me his plans for life, I found it extremely remarkable. I began to realize that this guy is motivated. Yes, he is targeting issues that seemingly will produce no affect, but that is only from the perspective of narrow minded people. As a member of Khai's panel on this issue of meeting with chancellor Cathie Black and as his friend, I have seen time after time that he is a voice among us. One voice can make a difference (Note, it has already caught YOUR attention). We are not expecting miracles, and we are fully aware that one "kid" cannot change the minds of "kings," but it will not cause us to falter. Voice will become voices and change will be made. Its not a joke, hes not lacking the support of those he represents, and you are not Santa Claus.

  9. look, any moron can preach change and reform and all that good stuff. but look at what has happened to them. JFK was a good president and wanted peace with USSR. what happened to him? killed. Lincoln wanted to free enslaved people and bring the nation together. what happened to him? killed. GW Bush destroyed the world. what happened to him? got filthy rich. evil prevails, whether you people like it or not. accept facts. accept history and human nature. no one can change it. not even a high school student or his "panel"

  10. Look, any moron can think like that, but those people get nothing done. Alot of good men and woman died trying to make this world a better place. Alot of men and women are alive, not trying to do a damn thing for this world or for themselves. Sorry but despite what you see as fact, history and human nature, this "panel" is not going to just chill out, max, relax all cool or shoot some b-ball outside of school. Not even a downtroden pessimist or his (impressive) arguement of facts will change that. But thank you for your feedback, it reminds us of why we do what we do.

  11. Give the kid a break and give him a chance. He's a child. Let him be. He'll learn soon enough the world doesn't work the way he wants it to, the way he knows it should.
