"There was an important mission for me, to shape so many...young minds as a teacher. God took away one child but...(gave) me thousands. And I have been grateful for the blessing." Mamie Till Mobley

Imagine if the Federal government provided similar bags of cash to school leaders without any oversight. Where would all the money go? Next time you hear there is no cash for education, ask a military commander to give you a loan.

John Easton and John W. Rogers, Jr.

John Easton (right) and John W. Rogers, Jr. (left) part of the Duncan think tank. John W. Rogers has an interesting background runs the Ariel charter schools founded to teach urban students about the stock markets, investments and capitalism. He attended the Chicago Laboratory School, serving as a mentor to the younger Arne Duncan a product of the same elite school. As Duncan moved from his career as a basketball player  into the field of education with a bachelor's degree in sociology, John W. Rogers already was a successful entrepreneur in Chicago with ties to Michelle Obama's family through her brother a basketball coach and player. Duncan's appointment as Chief of Staff for the Superintendent of the Chicago Public Schools and later at age 35, the Superintendent of Chicago Schools came through the association Rogers had with  Mayor Daley of Chicago. Rogers contributed $500,000 to Barack Obama, helping possibly  to secure the appointment of Duncan as U.S. Secretary of Education all three of them playing a basketball game the day of his election. Thus, appointing Arne Duncan U.S. Secretary of Education was like, "putting the fox into the chicken coop," reflected in the demands Duncan is imposing on districts across the nation, forcing many inner city schools to become charter for investors to continue to profit from them under the guise of higher academic standards realized in the Race to the Top funding ideology. Arne Duncan used Easton's research in Chicago as Superintendent of Schools and allegedly is replicating the model on the federal level.

Ravitch returning to her roots

When I was a doctoral candidate at the University of Buffalo in the 1980s, Diane Ravitch was  a must reading for the neophytes in the history of American public education from the perspective of  a revisionist historian.  An article in the New York Times, on Tuesday, March 3, 2010, described her as making a u-turn  about educational reform of the American public school system. Once a staunch advocate of standardized testing, merit pay,  charters,  and  privatization, the research  project in Pakistan's education system she conducted in 2005, "convinced her that protecting the United States’ public schools was important to democracy."

Obama a one term-president?

What do they have in common?

Answer: one was a one-term president awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Jimmy Carter.
And the other one Barack Obama heading in the same direction if he continues to dismantle public education in the United States.

Obama supports firing of central falls high teachers.

"At Central Falls High, he said, just 7 percent of 11th graders passed state math tests. Mr. Obama said he supported the school board’s decision to dismiss the faculty and staff members. “Our kids get only one chance at an education and we need to get it right...”  President Barack Obama (3/1/2010)

In a New York Times article this week, President Barack Obama speaking at the U.S Chamber of Commerce unveiled his latest education proposal certainly one his Secretary of Education Arne Duncan crafted where $900 million in federal grants would be available to school districts  and states that aggressively implement strategies and policies "willing to turn around struggling institutions, " simply closing them down.

"Let’s be honest: we need a lot more well-off, well-educated white folks with a personal stake in both charter schools and education reform in general if we’re going to take reform to the next level, both politically and operationally.Whitney Tilson, hedge fund manager and major funding angel for the school privatizing Democrats for Education Reform, thinks there’s not enough rich, educated white folks.( Preaprez) click photo to his blog.
