John Easton (right) and John W. Rogers, Jr. (left) part of the Duncan think tank. John W. Rogers has an interesting background runs the Ariel charter schools founded to teach urban students about the stock markets, investments and capitalism. He attended the Chicago Laboratory School, serving as a mentor to the younger Arne Duncan a product of the same elite school. As Duncan moved from his career as a basketball player into the field of education with a bachelor's degree in sociology, John W. Rogers already was a successful entrepreneur in Chicago with ties to Michelle Obama's family through her brother a basketball coach and player. Duncan's appointment as Chief of Staff for the Superintendent of the Chicago Public Schools and later at age 35, the Superintendent of Chicago Schools came through the association Rogers had with Mayor Daley of Chicago. Rogers contributed $500,000 to Barack Obama, helping possibly to secure the appointment of Duncan as U.S. Secretary of Education all three of them playing a basketball game the day of his election. Thus, appointing Arne Duncan U.S. Secretary of Education was like, "putting the fox into the chicken coop," reflected in the demands Duncan is imposing on districts across the nation, forcing many inner city schools to become charter for investors to continue to profit from them under the guise of higher academic standards realized in the Race to the Top funding ideology. Arne Duncan used Easton's research in Chicago as Superintendent of Schools and allegedly is replicating the model on the federal level.
